This studio began with a two-week tour of Japan. During this visit I saw Shirakawa-go and Takayama blanketed in snow, Tokyo and Kanazawa in pink cherry blossoms.

​

This design is informed by what I learned in Japan, specifically by examples of layering between indoor and outdoor spaces and the concept of engawa.

​

Supported by a partnership between Seattle Public Schools and fictional non-profit Friends of Mapes Creek Ecology Discovery Center, the proposal houses a base of operations and classrooms for Rainier Beach High School.
